![]() yes, PNG files work, and the in game default pics are in fact in PNG format. So Bob_lg and Bob_sm will work together but if you name them Bob_lg and Bobby_sm you will have issues.Īdditionally on format. The primary file name must also obviously be the same so they match together. You can name them anything you want but they must end in either a _ or plain old space then the letters lg (for large pic) or sm (for the small one). You have to have two separate files for a custom portrait. The smaller in game UI portraits are 76 x 96 pixels. Whatever, you are most unlikely to be disappointed with BGEE and will probably be thrilled by BG2EE.Here is a quick little tutorial for custom portrait guru's!Įach portrait is 210 x 330 pixels. That may of course change when they do PoE2. However even though the PoE story is pretty good, I would still say that the BG saga, especially the second half of it in BG2, is probably a bit longer, deeper and better. The fact that I even consider PoE in the same breath is probably an indication of how good PoE actually is. Different resting system, THACO, monsters that require minimum weapon enhancement levels to hit, stuff like that.Īs to whether PoE or BG are "better" it's kind of difficult to say becasue when I first played BG back in the day it totally blew my mind and left an indelible impression (like the first serious music you get into in your teens). The other thing you will notice is there is no convenient bottomless stash and you have to buy or find every arrow etc you use which will quickly lead you to undertand the reason for said stash and limitless ammo in PoE. The next thing you will notice is the diffences in the AD&D 2e ruleset, different spells etc that are similar but also very different. Having played PoE you will see immediately where BG came from. In both games you get Minsc and Boo, one of the most famous character duos in RPG gaming history - one of the reasons it's a bucket list game.Īnyone who loved the BG games is almost certainly going to enjoy PoE and I would say that, providing you can get past the 2000 graphics, the reverse is also true. It's not as good as BG2 but then very few games could be and it certainly isn't bad, esepcially the second half of it. You should really play BG1 first since some of the characters are carried over and it makes BG2's wonderfull story that much better to excperience. You never know what will happen, or when or where.īG2 is simply a bucket list game if you are into RPGs. In most RPGs these place would be safe havens. ![]() They also fleshed out the combat, and made it stronger although, again, that's less of an issue with the EE.Īnother thing that I liked, about BG2, is that a lot of the action takes place in the city and towns. ![]() BG2, however, feels like more of a complete package with a strong story, cool villain, more characters and character depth. The character development also seemed to take more of a backseat, to the exploration and combat. To me I didn't find the story or world setting as interesting in BG1. But could be a little bit more precise? What aspects of those games do you like more or which aspects are in your opinion better executed in Baldurs Gate or PoE. I would have gone for the enhanced editions anyway ). Originally posted by The Universal Void:From my experience so far I'd rate PoE higher than BG1 but lower than BG2.
